was hat es sich mit diesem titel auf sich?
kinenbi ist (natürlich) japanisch, wird so geschrieben 記念日 und bedeutet unter anderem jahrestag. ab morgen ist in japan "golden week" (das konzept von heute, morgen, gestern etc ist relativ und hängt von den jeweiligen positionen in der zeitzone ab. wenn ich also heute diesen newsletter schreibe und dabei "morgen" erwähne, dann kann das "heute" für einen bewohner der zeitzone von kalifornia noch gestern bedeuten und morgen würde dann zu heute. das alles wäre natürlich anders, wenn ich diesen newsletter in einem flugzeug auf dem weg nach amerika schreiben würde und das mail dann verschicke wenn ich in amerika angekommen bin. oder wenn ich in einem raumschiff unterwegs bin mit 99% lichtgeschwindigkeit und den newsletter schreibe während ich rückwärts laufe...)
auf jeden fall sind golden week drei zusammenhängende feiertage in japan (mi, do und fr) und da die meisten japaner mo und di auch noch frei nehmen neben o-bon im august die längsten ferien, die japaner nehmen ohne das gefühl zu haben die firma zu hintergehen.
vor fast zwei jahren also haben doris und ich eine fahrradtour unternommen von okazaki dem yahagi entlang bis zur mikawa bucht. doris ist meine ehemalige klasenkameradin, okazaki ist die stadt in mitteljapan in der ich wohne, yahagi ist der name eines flusses, mikawa ist der name der region in der sich okazaki befindet, eine klassenkameradin ist eine weibliche person, welcher sich in derselben klasse befindet und mühsam ist es, wenn man alle so wörter so vorgekaut bekommt. でしょう？
wir sind also mit dem fahrrad entlang dem fluss richtung meer gefahren, haben am fluss zu mittag gegessen, am meer die frische luft genossen etc.
zu ehren dieses schönen tages habe ich dieselbe tour noch einmal gemacht und dabei ein paar fotos geschossen. daher gedenktag. prost, doris!
 
die kaskade wo wir vor zwei jahren pause machten. und derselbe ort von den der anderen seite. das 2. foto habe ich auf dem rückweg gemacht.
generell hatte ich den eindruck, dass der wasserstand niedriger ist als vor zwei jahren und die vegetation trockener aussieht.
von meinem zimmer bis zum fluss sind es wahrscheinlich etwa drei kilometer, vom fluss bis zum meer nochmal ca. 20 kilometer, das macht 23km, ein schöner ausflug. die markierungen entlang dem fluss geben auskunft über die entfernung bis zur bucht, aber bei der marke 0 ist immer noch fluss. bis zum ende der strasse sind es nochmal zwei kilometer, weshalb die markierung dann auch korrekterweise -2.2km angibt.
 
wo's nicht mehr weitergeht: endstation bei -2.2km und das fahrrad, das mich dorthin gebracht hat.
viel hatte sich dort nicht verändert. die zementsterne sind immer noch dort, die fabrik auf der anderen flussseite auch. aber vielleicht hat sich ja doch was geändert - oder wir habens vor zwei jahren nicht bemerkt. es hat bewohner gegeben dort - katzen. welche sich wahrscheinlich von krabben etc. ernähren. als ich dort war hat ein älterer herr (auf japanisch "ojisan") die katzen gefüttert. ich weiss aber nicht, ob er das regelmässig macht.
   
die fabrik und die katzen. die katzen zeichnen sich dadurch aus, dass sie, im gegensatz zur fabrik, nicht mit einem kamin ausgestattet sind.
entlang dem fluss befinden sich einige familienzonen, grillplätze, strände, sporteinrichtungen (tennisplätze, fussballplätze, baseballplätze etc). beliebte aktivitäten auf dem fluss sind surfen und jetski fahren. aktivitäten am fluss sind golf üben (und bälle im hohen gras suchen ^_^, fussball, baseball, tennis, ferngesteuerte flugzeuge fliegen lassen etc.
 
surfen auf dem yahagi. das zweite foto ist keine werbung für autos, sondern ich hab auf die surfer gezielt im hintergrund. ehrlich...
auf dem rückweg habe ich noch einige dinge fotografiert, die ich euch nicht vorenthalten möche.
  
das schild auf dem ersten foto bedeutet "jagen mit waffe verboten". ich frage mich, was da gejagt wurde. vielleicht raben. jedenfalls bin ich froh, dass ich nicht abgeschossen wurde. die schilder auf dem zweiten foto bedeuten "gefährlich" und werden als "kiken" gelesen. das mittlere schild ist in kanji geschrieben, rechts und links in hiragana, einem der zwei silbenalphabete des japanischen. das einzige gefährliche an diesem ort ist, dass ich mit dem fahrrad ganz links vorbei muss und die gefahr besteht, dass ich abstürze, weil die gefahr-schilder mir den weg versperren. dasselbe auf dem dritten foto. wo, bitteschön, ist die gefahr?
ein riesiges tanuki (ein art dachs) aus stein. die mikawa-region ist bekannt für die lokale steinmetzkunst. die statue befindet sich vor einem golfübungsplatz. die kanji auf dem weissen schild lesen sich "mite gozaru" (bitte sehen sie sich das an) und unter der statue steht "koutsuuanzen" - sicherheit im öffentlichen verkehr. typisch japanisch ^_^
 
diese zuglinie ist nicht mehr in betrieb, steht aber immer noch obwohl einige geleise fehlen. die kanji in weiss bedeuten "anzen dai ichi" - sicherheit als erstes.
 
das ist ein müllabfuhrwagen der region. die schrift im blauen kreis lautet: toukai (name der region, eine stufe höher als mikawa) bika (verschönerung - im einzelnen "schön" und "veränderung"). am besten fand ich allerdings den müllmann, der aussieht als ob er gegen den müll kämpft anstatt in wegzutragen. auf alle fälle niedlich...
dann, auf dem rückweg, kam DER REGEN! eigentlich nur ein kleiner schauer. nur ein wenig. relativ kurz. aber das liest sich nicht so dramatisch wie DER REGEN.
fast zum ende noch was für henk. henk mag brücken, deshalb ein paar fotos von brücken. dude, falls du die originalfotos möchtest, schick mir ein mail.

üblicherweise fahren die shinkansen zwischen 250 und 300km/h. da sich der bahnhof anjo-mikawa aber ziemlich in der nähe befindet, kann es sein dass sie auf dem film nicht mit der spitzengeschwindigkeit gefahren sind. |

what's with that title?
kinenbi is (of course) japanese, and is written like this: 記念日. one of its meanings is anniversary. as of tomorrow it's golden week in japan (please note that the concept of today, tomorrow and yesterday is all relative and depends on what timezone you're in. for example, if i write this newsletter and mention "tomorrow" in it, then the meaning of "today" for someone in the californian timezone could be yesterday and tomorrow would then become today. of course, this would be all different if i were writing this newsletter on board of a plane to amerika and i would send the newsletter shortly after arriving. or if i was travelling in a spaceship with 99% of the speed of light and walking backwards at the same time...)
anyway, golden week is three consecutive holidays (wednesday, thursday, friday) and since most japanese ppl take off monday and tuesday as well golden week becomes the longest time off for a japanese worker except o-bon in august when a japanese can relax without feeling he or she is cheating on his or her company.
almost two years back doris and i did a bicycle tour from okazaki along the yahagi down to mikawa bay. doris is my former classmatem okazaki is a city in central japan where i live, yahagi is the name of a river, mikawa is the name of the region where okazaki, a classmate is a person who studies in the same class as you and anal-retentive is to explain all these words in detail...でしょう？
so we were riding our bicycles along the river towards the sea, had some bentou at the river, enjoyed the fresh air and all.
in honor of doris i did the same tour today again and took some pictures along the way. anniversary. cheers, doris!
the cascade where we had lunch two years ago. and the same place from the other side of the river. i took the second picture on the way back.
in general i thought there was less water than two years ago and that the vegetation looks kind of dry, even more so than last year.
from my accommodation to the river it's about 3km, from there to the sea it's about 20km, that makes 23km and is a nice daytrip by bicycle. the markings along the river tell you the distance to the bay, but at 0 it's still river. until the end of the road it's still more than 2.2km, the marking there correctly reads -2.2.
where i ran out of road: final destination at -2.2km and the bicycle that brought me there.
not a lot of things have changed there. the concret stars are still there as is the production plant on the other side of the river. or maybe something did changed. or we didn't notice it two years back. there are some dwellers now - cats. most likely they eat crabs or whatever. when i was there some old geezer ("ojisan" in japanese) was feeding them. don't know if he's there on a regular basis.

along the river there are plenty of family zones, barbecue places, beaches, sport facilities (tennis courts, soccer fields, baseball fields etc.). some popular activities are surfing, jetski, golf (or looking for golfballs in the grass ^_^), soccer, baseball, tennis, remote-controlled planes etc.
surfing on the yahagi. the second picture is not an ad for cars, i was aiming for the surfers in the background. honestly...
on the way back i caught some stuff on film that i'd like to share with you.
the sign on the first picture says gun-hunting prohibited. i wonder what was being hunted before. maybe ravens. i'm glad i didn't get shot. the signs on the second foto mean "danger" and are read as "kiken". the sign in the middle is written in kanji, the others are in hiragana, one of the two syllable alphabets in japanese. incidentally, the only danger about that spot is that with the bicycle i have to cross on the far left side where i could fall down the slope because the danger-signs are blocking the way. the same applies to the third picture. what's dangerous about that spot, please?
a giant tanuki (some sort of japanese badger) made from stone. the mikawa region ist famous for its masons. this statue is in front of a golf center. the kanji on the white sign say "mite gozaru" (please have a look) and beaneath the statue it says "koutsuuanzen" - traffic safety. a typical japanese encouragement ^_^
this trainline is apparently out of order but still stands. some of the tracks are missing. the kanji in white read as "anzen dai ichi" - safety comes first.
this is the car of a garbage collection or refuse collection car. maybe canadians call it something different, eh. i have no clue what australians would call it. anyway, the kanji in the blue circle read as toukai (the name of the region, on a larger scale than mikawa) bika (beautification - one by one it's "beautiful" and "change"). what tops everything else is the garbage collector who looks like he's fighting garbage instead of collecting it. cute, cute, cute...
then on the way back came THE RAIN! actually it was just a couple of drops. just a couple. short. but that doesn't read as dramatically as THE RAIN.
